Hi Everyone- I just wanted to pass on some sad news, and thought this would be the best way to reach all of our friends. Shaka was put to sleep this morning after a brief, but quickly progressing illness. She began to show signs of liver failure about three days ago. Since all the the tests she undewent couldn't determine the cause of the problem, there was little we could do. I really think it was simply old age and her body was beginning to shut down. Yesterday, there was a rapid decline in her health in just a 24 hour period. Alexis and I decided that if she made it through the night, we would put her to sleep the next day. Isabelle has not yet noticed that she is gone- I have kept her really busy with outings and friends visiting. Shaka was her best playmate, especially after Kona died, so I am not quite sure what I will tell her when she asks about her. Thanks again to Mike and Gracy and their team of dogwalkers who helped us out so much while we were in the hospital. Knowing that the dogs were well cared for and loved while we were away sure did give us a great sense of comfort. Those of you who knew Shaka will know what I mean when I say she was the biggest pain-in-the-neck I ever loved. Sweet dreams Shaka. Annie
