Statement of Intent
 

The goal of this project is to develop a land use plan to protect the water quality, water quantity, and native habitats of the Ichetucknee watershed (surface and groundwater). This will be accomplished by addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by the integration of community values into the plan.

These values will include:
 
  • The preservation of agrarian interests.

  • A rational use of the natural resources.
    		•
     
  • The protection of biological diversity.
    		•
     
  • The integration of urban growth withing existing land use fabric.
    		•
     
  • Consideration for the quality of life.
    		•

    Who we are:

     

    Our study group was developed from a joint venture between the University of Florida's Urban and Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture Departments, in an effort to design a future land use plan for the Ichetucknee basin area.
    The study group was composed of 17 graduate students and 2 faculty advisors.The study's main focus is the protection of the unique public and natural resources of the Ichetucknee Springs.

    In an effort to explore all the areas that could have an effect on any future land use plan, this study was divided into four areas of concentration, each one responsible for developing a plan to maximize one specific aspect of the study area:
