GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This data set shows monitored sea turtle activity (nests and crawls) along the coast of Alligator Point, which is in Franklin County, Florida. Data has only been collected for the past few years, and this data set shows activities from 1998 through the beginning of Summer 2002.

A note concerning data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale 
datasetsare not suitable for some project, analysis, or
modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best
available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that 
are at the county level.

1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base 
mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that 
are at the multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that 
are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should 
be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

1)Data was received as five separate MS Excel Spreadsheets. 
Additional records for the 2002 season were received as the 
text within an e-mail.

2) The data was compiled into a new MS Excel Spreadsheet
that included all five years of data. Some field names were
changed to more accurately describe all data sets. The
spreadsheet was then saved out as a DBF4 (dBASE IV) file.

3) The table was imported into ArcView 3.2a and checked for
accuracy, and data that was deleted from the fields was
re-entered with data from the original Excel spreadsheets.

4) The points were plotted in decimal degrees using "View:
Add Event Theme." 

5) The points were projected to a custom Albers projection
using the ESRI Projector! extension.
