The dataset provides location and attribute information for use in national and regional cartographic and network analysis applications. Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
Each Amtrak railroad or thruway bus station identified in the Amtrak Timetables was initially geocoded based on its street address and ZIP Code, using the geocoding procedures in TransCad (TM) software and the TIGER/Line(TM) 1995 street centerline databases. Stations with ambiguous street addresses were then locatd using a combination of geographic cues, including location of nearest railroad tracks,location of Standard Point Location Code (SPLC) place names, and commercial road atlases. Stations with no street address were manually located based on place name and locationof nearest Amtrak railroad service. GeoPlan obtained the data in late 1999 and made the changes documented above.
