GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is the CLIP 2.0 Natural Floodplain layer, which is equivalent to the Florida Forever Conservation Needs Assessment Natural Floodplain layer version 3.3. FNAI worked closely with DEP/Division of Water Resources Management/Bureau of Submerged Lands and Environmental Resources (SLER) to develop a method for representing natural floodplain. According to accepted definitions of floodplain, these areas are associated with natural waterways (Kathleen Swanson, SLER, pers. comm.). Floodplains are often described in terms of statistical frequency of flooding, i.e. 10-year floodplain or 100-year floodplain. The boundary of the 100-year flood is commonly used in floodplain mitigation programs to identify areas where the risk of flooding is significant, e.g. FEMA data. The 10-year floodplain may fit more closely the ecological descriptions of floodplain, which primarily focuses on wetlands adjacent to rivers, streams, and lakes. For example, Mitsch and Gosselink (1986) use riparian wetlands and floodplain interchangeably. We, therefore, considered floodplain to be wetlands associated with waterways, and natural floodplain to be a subset that exists in a natural state. We also elected to use only floodplains of major rivers and lakes, rather than all streams or lakes, in order to capture the most important systems. This data set was developed as part of the Florida Forever Conservation Needs 
Assessment, and is now also a core data layer for CLIP 2.0.  These data are 
intended to address specific performance measures of the Florida Forever program 
and may not be appropriate for general use, and are not intended for use in a 
regulatory decision-making process.







































Permitted Uses:
1. User may produce maps, tables, and/or reports, using all or portions of the Data 
provided.  All or portions of the Data may be merged directly into reports produced 
by the User.  The appropriate Sources, as listed in Table 1, must be cited as the 
source of the Data in all products, publications, or presentations containing all or 
portions of the Data.

2.  User may use all or portions of this Data, alone or together with other data, to 
perform original analysis.  Users are strongly encouraged to collaborate with FNAI 
on all analyses to ensure full understanding of appropriate use of the Data.  Any 
products, publications, or presentations based on such analysis must cite the 
appropriate Source, as listed in Table 1, for original data used in the analysis.

Uses Not Permitted:
1.  User shall not sublicense, sell, rent, lease, loan, transfer, assign, or provide 
access to electronic versions of these Data, in whole or in part, to unlicensed third 
parties, including clients or contractors.  Printed versions of all or portions of these 
Data may only be provided to clients as part of a larger service which is contracted 
by the client.

2.  The original Source, as listed in Table 1, must not be cited as the source of any 
interpretations or analyses performed on these Data by the User.  The User is solely 
responsible for any interpretation or manipulation of the Data.

3.  These Data shall not be used as the primary criteria for regulatory permitting 
decisions.

4.  User shall not use all or portions of these Data, in electronic, print, or other 
medium, to create products for distribution and sale that rely principally upon these 
Data.














The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data
compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from
the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is
collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources)
who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in
FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the
data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees

A note about data scale: 

Scale is an important factor in data usage.  Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data. 

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
