FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION
VERSION 2004

TITLE: PANAMA CITY CRAYFISH LOCATIONS, 1999 - 2002

Geodataset Name: CRAYFISH
Geodataset Type: SHAPEFILE
Geodataset Feature: POINT
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This shapefile shows locations were Panama City crayfish (Procambarus econfinae) were observed during field surveys from 1999 through 2002. The Keppner's field surveys are continuing into 2003, and some points in this shapefile may reflect these more recent collections. Panama City crayfish are listed as Species of Special Concern by the state of Florida.

USER NOTES:
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data.

FNAI element occurrence data for Panama City crayfish from September 2002, has slightly different point locations than this shapefile. There are a few reasons for this:

1. This data was GPS'ed in the field by the Keppner's,

2. FNAI's points are close, but may not indicate the correct ditch, correct side of road, etc.

3. FNAI may group multiple collection locations as one dot or one "population"

Also, there are additional crayfish locations that currently only the Keppner's and St. Joe Co. know about. We have to wait until St. Joe releases that information or FWC receives the information from the Keppner's annual report which is a requirement with their FWC scientific collection report.

A note concerning data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale
datasetsare not suitable for some project, analysis, or
modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best
available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the county level.

1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base
mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should
be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with
your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every
effort has been made to supply the user with data
documentation. For additional information, see the
References sectionand the Data Source Contact section of
this documentation. For more information regarding scale
and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

1. Data was received from the Keppner's as a point shapefile
in the State Plane, NAD 83, Florida North projection.

2. Using the Projector! extension, the data was converted to
the custom Florida Albers projection.

3. The FNAI element occurrence shapefile was queried for
Panama City crayfish records. These records were subsetted
into their own shapefile.

4. The attribute table of this subset was joined with the
original table from the Keppner's.

5. The final table was cleaned up and the Reproductive field
was added by Patty Kelly (FWS) based on the available survey
data.

6. Metadata was written and the files were added to the FWS
SNAP server.
