TITLE: FDOT DISTRICT 2 - GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS

Geodataset Name: GOVBUILD_D2_JUN06
Geodataset Type: Shapefile
Geodataset Feature: POLYGON
Feature Count: 638
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains government buildings including structures operated by public entities for institutional, correctional and administrative purposes. It does not include public buildings used primarily for education (e.g. Schools), recreation (eg. golf courses, gyms), medical facilities, or other uses unrelated to administrative/bureaucratic process. This GIS layer was produced by the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council (NCFRPC) under contract with FDOT District 2 in early 2005, and by the Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council (NEFRPC) under contract with FDOT District 2 in early 2006. This is one of many layers that fall into the general category of "sociocultural" GIS data.

A note concerning data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale
datasetsare not suitable for some project, analysis, or
modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best
available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the county level.

1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base
mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should
be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with
your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every
effort has been made to supply the user with data
documentation. For additional information, see the
References sectionand the Data Source Contact section of
this documentation. For more information regarding scale
and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
North Central Florida Regional Planning Council - Process Steps:

ALCHAUA:
All of data sets were recieved from the Alachua County Property
Appraisers Office. "GISLandpub", "GISAddr", "GISBldpub",
"GISRealpub" tables were joined and then exported as a personal
database (db1). "GISEntprop", "GISEntity" were joined as one
table (db2). Then a third join was performed "db1", "db2"
and "AlachuaCounty_Parcel.shp" shape file to create
"AC_Parcel". A select by attribute was performed "buse=9300
OR buse=9400 OR luse >= 8600 OR puse >= 8600 OR
muse >= 1060 <= 1063". The selected data was then exported
as a personal database. The required fields were then selected
and the remaining rows and columns of data were exported as
a shapefile called "AC_PA_gov" renamed "PA_gov".

GILCHRIST:
Gilchrist County parcel data was received from property appraiser in XLS
(excel) format, data was exported as comma delimited table and read by
ArcCatalog. In ArcGIS data (view1 and view3) was joined to projected
Gilchrist County property appraiser parcel data via parcel number. Selected
parcels were derived by querying on USECD column of view1.xls and BTYPE
column of view3.xls for all parcels with BTYPE= 9300 or USECD >=8600
<=9100, and then matching the parcel to the known address of the entity.
Added fields OPERATING, OP_CLASS, COMMON_USE, USE
Process Date: 20050601

Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council - Process Steps: Government building locations werew obtained from FGDL as a geocoded point layer entitled: gc_govbuild_sep05.shp This layer was analyzed and any locations that were missing were added as points and attributed. Sources include yellow pages, local, state, federal web sites. The points representing the government building locations were moved to the center of the polygons on which they are located. The polygons were then selected using a spatial selection. The government building parcel polygons for each county were then exported to a new layer. All of the county polygon layers were then appended. Attribution was checked for quality control. Process Date: 20060501
GeoPlan Center - Process Steps: GeoPlan received this data, via CDROM, and performed the following: -Reprojected to the FGDL Albers HPGN map projection. -Restructured the attribute table to fit the SCE Data Specification Document Standards. -Merged datasets together to create one FDOT District-wide shapefile. -Added FGDLAQDATE field based on the date FGDL acquired the data from the source. -Added DESCRIPT field based on 'OP_CLASS'.
