FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION

TITLE: US EPA REGULATED AIR EMISSIONS FACILITIES (AFS) IN FLORIDA - AUGUST 2013

Geodataset Name: EPAAFS_AUG13
Geodataset Type: SHAPEFILE
Geodataset Feature: Point
Feature Count: 5264
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This data set contains locations of EPA-regulated air emissions facilities from the Locational Reference Tables (LRT) contained in the Envirofacts (EF) database. Information on air releases is contained in the Aerometric Information Retrieval System (AIRS), a computer-based repository for information about air pollution in the United States. This information comes from source reports by various stationary sources of air pollution, such as electric power plants, steel mills, factories, and universities, and provides information about the air pollutants they produce. In AIRS, these sources are known as facilities, and the part of AIRS associated with data about sources is called the AIRS Facility Subsystem, or AFS. The information in AFS is used by the states to prepare State Implementation Plans, to track the compliance status of point sources with various regulatory programs, and to report air emissions estimates for pollutants regulated under the Clean Air Act. Envirofacts air release information specifically relates to industrial plants and their components (stacks, points, and segments). This data provides valuable information not only about the industrial facilities, but about the chemicals they introduce into your local air. There is information available on managing operating permit application and renewals. You may use the Air Releases Query to retrieve selected data from the Envirofacts Database employing any combination of facility name, geographic location, and standard industrial classification. Additional Information is available at the EPA website http://www.epa.gov/geospatial/ . This layer is an update to the epaafs_jul12.shp.

The attributes provided within this data set are derived from the USEPA's
Envirofacts Data warehouse. For additional background on the attributes listed
within this service, please visit http://www.epa.gov/enviro/html/ef_overview.html.
USER NOTES:
Locations are tested and reported individually
Completeness of the data set varies for individual features.
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within
the original data.

To assist in tracking the status of Air Emissions information. The information in
AFS is used by the states to prepare State Implementation Plans, to track the
compliance status of point sources with various regulatory programs, and to report
air emissions estimates for pollutants regulated under the Clean Air Act. Tabular
data (including point locations) can be accessed at
http://www.epa.gov/enviro/facts/afs/search.html

FRS uses a best-pick algorithm to provide horizontal positional information. This
assigns the latitude and longitude with the best accuracy value to each facility.
Because information in FRS is collected across numerous states and programs,
positional accuracy for the data set varies for each individual feature and is stored
on a record-level basis. Overall horizontal positional accuracy for the entire data
set fluctuates as new information is received and is not estimated for the entire
data set within this record. For more information on accuracy of FRS locations,
visit http://iaspub.epa.gov/sor_internet/registry/facilreg/home/overview/home.do

This data is provided 'as is' and its vertical positional accuracy
has not been verified by GeoPlan

Although these data have been processed successfully on a computer system at
the Environmental Protection Agency, no warranty expressed or implied is made
regarding the accuracy or utility of the data on any other system or for general or
scientific purposes, nor shall the act of distribution constitute any such warranty. It
is strongly recommended that careful attention be paid to the contents of the
metadata file associated with these data to evaluate data set limitations,
restrictions or intended use. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency shall not

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:
