USER NOTES:
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data.

To date, there have not been enough consistent field surveys to confirm the absence or presence of the Okaloosa darter in a number of the streams within the Boggy Bayou and Rocky Bayou drainages. Therefore, some streams included in this shapefile may not actually be utilized by the darter.

A note concerning data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale
datasetsare not suitable for some project, analysis, or
modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best
available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the county level.

1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base
mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should
be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with
your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every
effort has been made to supply the user with data
documentation. For additional information, see the
References sectionand the Data Source Contact section of
this documentation. For more information regarding scale
and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

Sources:

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS): National Hydrography Dataset
The NHD is based upon the content of USGS
Digital Line Graph (DLG) hydrography data integrated with reach-
related information from the EPA Reach File Version 3 (RF3). The
NHD supersedes DLG and RF3 by incorporating them, not by replacing
them.

DLG Hydrography features, polygons.

This shapefile was created with ArcView 3.2a

1. The USFWS recovery plan for the Okaloosa darter, and
USFWS biologists currently working with the Okaloosa darter
believe that the darter is restricted to the Boggy Bayou
and Rocky Bayou drainages based on historic and current
collections.

2. Using the NHD data, rivers and streams within these
sub-basins were selected and converted into a new
shapefile.

3. The estuarine portions of Boggy Bayou and Rocky Bayou were
removed from the shapefile using the X-Tools Erase command
and the USGS Hydrography shapefile depicting the bayous.

4. The field Length in Meters was added to the attribute
table using the X-Tools extension Calculate Length
command. The field Length in Miles was also added to the
attribute table using the field calculator request
[Length_meters] / 1609.344

5. The attribute table was cleaned up to include only
fields applicable to the Okaloosa darter range.
