FEATURE ATTRIBUTE TABLES CODES AND VALUES:
ITEM ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHAPE Data attribute inherent to the ESRI shapefile format,
which defines the data as a point, polyline, or polygon.
COUNTY The county in which the spring is located
SPRING_NAME Name given by source information
WMD Water Management District in which the spring is located
NWF Northwest Florida Water Management District
SJR St. Johns River Water Management District
SR Suwannee River Water Management District
SWF Southwest Florida Water Management District
MAGNITUDE A scale describing the volume of water discharged by a spring.
This dataset contains only 1st magnitude springs, which discharge
over 100 cubic feet of water per second.
HUC Hydrolgic Cataloging Unit (sometimes called "watershed") in which the
spring is located
SOURCE Originator of basic record information used for this dataset
Bulletin 31: The information came directly from the FGS Bulletin
31 Springs encyclopedia
DEP: The information came from DEP's SDE layer Springs
DEP (Maddox): The information came from Gary Maddox at DEP
SJRWMD: St. Johns River Water Management District
SRWMD: Suwannee River Water Management District
STATION_ID The identification number used by the water management districts.
Not all of the water management districts have one of these numbers.
AQUIFER The source aquifer if known.
FL: Floridan
I: Intermediate
S: Surficial
OWNERSHIP Who currently owns the property around the head spring.
NITRATES_2 The level of nitrates flowing from the spring measured in
milligrams per liter in the year 2000. The natural background
level of nitrates in groundwater is 0.02 mg/l.
LAT_DD Degrees Latitude for the spring location
LAT_MM Minutes Latitude for the spring location
LAT_SS Seconds Latitude for the spring location
LONG_DD Degrees Longitude for the spring location
LONG_MM Minutes Longitude for the spring location
LONG_SS Seconds Longitude for the spring location
DESCRIPT FGDL added item based on SPRING_NAME

USER NOTES:
A note concerning data scale: The dataset provides location and attribute information for use in national and regional cartographic and network analysis applications. Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our web pages at: http://www.geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html
FGDL QUALITY ASSURANCE STATUS:
-Upcased all character records -Deleted 'COMMENT' field because there were no values -Added DESCRIPT item based on SPRING_NAME

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
This dataset was created by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in 2001. The primary sources for this dataset were obtained from FDEP's springs database in ArcView (SDE), the Water Management Districts, Gary Maddox, and the Florida Geological Survey's Bulletin 31 Springs of Florida Encyclopedia. All of the springs were projected from lat/long information. For DEP's spring layer from SDE, ArcView was used to determine the lat/longs for the springs that did not have them using the table to point tool. In 2002, the GeoPlan Center downloaded this dataset in shapefile format from the Florida DEP website http://www.dep.state.fl.us/gis/datadir.asp. The DESCRIPT item was added based on SPRING_NAME, the COMMENT field was deleted, and all lowercase items within attribute table were upcased.
