FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION

TITLE: SPRINGS PRIORITY FOCUS AREAS IN FLORIDA - 2019

Geodataset Name: SPRINGS_PRIO_FA_JAN19
Geodataset Type: SHAPEFILE
Geodataset Feature: Polygon
Feature Count: 19
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains Springs Priority Focus Areas located in the State of Florida. As per the Florida Springs and Aquifer Protection Act (part VIII of chapter 373, Florida Statutes), the department delineates priority focus areas for each Outstanding Florida Spring that is impaired by excessive nutrient pollution. Using the best data available, the department delineates the priority focus areas considering groundwater travel time to the spring, hydrogeology, nutrient loads in the springshed, and other factors. The priority focus areas are adjusted to rely upon understood and easily identifiable boundaries such as roads or political jurisdictions. The priority focus areas become effective upon incorporation into a basin management action plan (BMAP). This is an update to the FGDL layer SPRINGS_PRIO_FA_JUN18.

This data is provided 'as is' by GeoPlan and is complete to our
knowledge.
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within
the original data.

To spatially represent the area where a spring is likely to be most adversely
impacted by activities. The purpose of this layer to show the land area with greatest
potential to impact a specific spring.

collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources)
who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in
FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the
data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
Individual shapefiles used by the BMAP section were combined to create this data layer.
Data was projected to FDEP FL Albers projection.
It has been passed on the BMAP Administrators to review and provide input.
Process Date: Unknown

Wekiva boundary removed and data layer resubmitted as Springs Priority Focus Areas. Process Date:
Added as a new layer in the GIS library. Removed BMAP Springs Protection Zones from the GIS library. This new layer is a replacement for the BMAP Springs Protection Zones in the GIS library, MapDirect and the FDEP Open Data site. Process Date: 20160921
Madison Blue, Kings Bay, Fanning-Manatee, Troy-Peacock-LafayetteBlue-Falmouth, and Volusia Blue Priority Focus Areas have been added as Primary Protection Zones. Process Date: 20171208
Updated data obtained from DEAR and updated the same in the GIS library. Process Date: 20171211
Revised data obtained from DEAR and updated the same in the GIS library Process Date: 20171213
Madison Blue, Kings Bay, Fanning-Manatee, Troy-Peacock-LafayetteBlue-Falmouth, and Volusia Blue Priority Focus Areas have been removed as Primary Protection Zones as per request from Gregory DeAngelo. Process Date: 20171213

The GeoPlan Center downloaded the Springs Priority Focus Areas dataset on June 7th, 2019 from the FDEP Data Portal: Florida Department of Environmental Protection Geospatial Open Data: https://geodata.dep.state.fl.us/ https://geodata.dep.state.fl.us/datasets/springs-priority-focus-areas Please Note: Data is also available via the FTP website: http://publicfiles.dep.state.fl.us/otis/gis/data/SPRINGS_PRIORITY_FOCUS_AREAS.zip SPRINGS_PRIORITY_FOCUS_AREAS.zip SPRINGS_PRIORITY_FOCUS_AREAS.gdb The GDB layer was exported to shapefile. The dataset's projection was redefined to FGDL Albers. During the QA/QC process the following tasks were undertaken: - Redefined the dataset's projection from FDEP Albers to FGDL Albers. - Deleted the OBJECTID field. - Uppercased all records in the table. - A DESCRIPT field was added based on NAME. - A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on date downloaded from source. - Renamed file from SPRINGS_PRIORITY_FOCUS_AREAS to SPRINGS_PRIO_FA_JAN19.
