PFAS information readily available and accessible to the public regarding DEP’s efforts.</idPurp><idAbs>The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is committed to the protection of the groundwater resources of the state and the public health and safety of our residents. As part of these efforts, DEP’s Division of Waste Management routinely investigates sites where there is known or suspected soil and groundwater contamination statewide.

The Division of Waste Management has begun investigations to determine potential sources and environmental impacts related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS are a large class of complex man-made chemicals that have been used in a wide range of consumer and industrial products. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) are part of the larger group of PFAS chemicals. While no longer manufactured in the United States, PFOA and PFOS were extensively used and manufactured since the 1940’s. Common uses of PFAS included, stain and water repellents used in textile manufacturing, paper products, food packaging, and cookware. PFAS has also been used in numerous industrial processes, and in the formulation of fire suppressant foams.

PFAS are stable chemicals that do not naturally degrade. When released to the environment, PFAS can cause contamination to soil, groundwater, and surface water and these impacts may pose a risk to public health and the environment.

DEP will continue its efforts to investigate and understand PFAS in the environment and the ecological and human health risks associated with PFAS contamination. This web page will be dedicated to making PFAS information readily available and accessible to the public regarding DEP’s efforts. DEP is committed to providing timely information to the public regarding these efforts.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is committed to the protection of the groundwater resources of the state and the public health and safety of our residents. DEP is committed to providing timely information to the public regarding these efforts.

</idAbs><idCredit>Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Waste Management</idCredit><searchKeys><keyword>Groundwater</keyword><keyword>Soil</keyword><keyword>Florida Department of Environmental Protection</keyword><keyword>Tallahassee</keyword><keyword>Florida</keyword><keyword>Health</keyword><keyword>Environment</keyword></searchKeys><themeKeys xmlns=""><keyword>Groundwater, Soil, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Tallahassee, Florida, Health, Environment</keyword></themeKeys><dataChar><CharSetCd value="004"/></dataChar><idStatus><ProgCd value="001"/></idStatus><dataExt xmlns=""><exDesc>Ground Condition</exDesc><tempEle><TempExtent><exTemp><TM_Instant><tmPosition>2026-08-04T00:00:00</tmPosition></TM_Instant></exTemp></TempExtent></tempEle></dataExt><idPoC xmlns=""><rpIndName>Christopher Williams</rpIndName><rpOrgName>Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Waste Management</rpOrgName><rpPosName>GIS Coordinator</rpPosName><role><RoleCd value="006"/></role><rpCntInfo xmlns=""><cntAddress addressType="both"><delPoint>2600 Blair Stone Rd</delPoint><city>Tallahassee</city><adminArea>FL</adminArea><postCode>32399-2400</postCode><eMailAdd>Christopher.A.Williams@dep.state.fl.us</eMailAdd></cntAddress><cntPhone><voiceNum tddtty="">850-245-8758</voiceNum></cntPhone><cntInstr>Please email (Christopher.A.Williams@dep.state.fl.us) for your request or download this layer from our FDEP portal link: http://geodata.dep.state.fl.us</cntInstr></rpCntInfo><displayName>Christopher Williams</displayName></idPoC><resMaint xmlns=""><maintFreq><MaintFreqCd value="002"/></maintFreq></resMaint><resConst><Consts><useLimit>None</useLimit></Consts><LegConsts xmlns=""><useLimit>The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources) who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist. Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. - Added the field DESCRIPT based on SITE_NAME.
- Added fields LAT_DD, LONG_DD, MGRS, and GOOGLEMAP. LAT_DD and LONG_DD were calculated using the calculate
geometry command and selecting decimal degrees as the units. MGRS was calculated using the Convert Coordinate
Notation tool and selecting Output coordinate Format as MGRS. The GOOGLEMAP field was calculated by concatenating:
 "https://www.google.com/maps/place/" & [MGRS].
- Added the field FGDLAQDATE based on date downloaded from source.
- Reduced field length of field MANANGERS from 32767 to 45.
- Upcased all text in the attribute table except for DOCUMENTS field.
- Data set was renamed eric_pfas_sites_aug26 from ERIC_PFAS_SITES_SP
- Deleted blob field SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA</stepDesc><stepDateTm>2026-08-04T00:00:00</stepDateTm><stepProc xmlns=""><rpOrgName>GeoPlan</rpOrgName><role><RoleCd value="005"/></role></stepProc></prcStep><dataSource type=""><srcDesc>Spatial and Attribute Information</srcDesc><srcMedName><MedNameCd value="015"/></srcMedName></dataSource></dataLineage><report type="DQConcConsis" dimension=""><measDesc>This data is provided 'as is'.
