- Added fields LAT_DD_1, LONG_DD_1, MGRS, and GOOGLEMAP. LAT_DD_1 and LONG_DD_1 were calculated using the calculate
geometry command and selecting decimal degrees as the units. MGRS was calculated using the Convert Coordinate Notation tool
and selecting Output coordinate Format as MGRS. The GOOGLEMAP field was calculated by concatenating:
 "https://www.google.com/maps/place/" & [MGRS].
- Added the field FGDLAQDATE based on date downloaded from source.
- Upcased all text in the attribute table except for DOCUMENTS field.
- Data set was renamed eric_waste_cleanup_jan23 from eric_waste_cleanup</procdesc>

 <edomv>Brownfield Site Rehabilitation</edomv>
<edomvd>Brownfields are defined by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) as abandoned, idled, or underused industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. The primary goals of Florida's Brownfields Redevelopment Act (Ch. 97-277, Laws of Florida, codified at ss. 376.77-.85, F.S.) are to reduce health and environmental hazards on existing commercial and industrial sites that are abandoned or underused due to these hazards and create financial and regulatory incentives to encourage voluntary cleanup and redevelopment of sites. After a local municipality in Florida designates an area as a brownfield to encourage redevelopment and focus upon revitalization, a resolution is passed and property owners within that designated area optionally may remediate or redevelop their property. Executed Brownfield Site Rehabilitation Agreements (BSRAs) are voluntary cleanup agreements between a responsible party and FDEP or a delegated local pollution control program. This agreement provides the FDEP and the public assurance that site rehabilitation will be conducted in accordance with the statute and the Brownfields Cleanup Criteria rule (Ch. 62-785), and provides liability protection for the responsible person. The agreement contains various commitments by the responsible person, including milestones for completion of site rehabilitation tasks and submittal of technical reports and plans as agreed to by the responsible person and the DEP. It also contains a commitment by the FDEP to review technical reports according to an agreed upon schedule. This layer provides a polygon representation of the boundaries of sites within a designated Brownfield Area within Florida where BSRAs have been executed between FDEP and a responsible party.</edomvd>

 <edomv>CERCLA Site Screening Program</edomv>
<edomvd>The Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) Site Screening Group conducts CERCLA site assessments on sites with confirmed or suspected contamination to document whether a release of hazardous substances has occurred and to evaluate potential threats to nearby receptors, including but not limited to drinking water wells and surface water bodies. Research and file review is conducted by DEP staff. Fieldwork, when required, is accomplished using a combination of DEP staff, EPA staff and private contractors. The information collected during the assessments is used to complete a Hazard Ranking System (HRS) evaluation. The HRS score and the supporting site information are then evaluated by EPA in determining whether the site should be included on the National Priorities List (NPL) and cleaned up under the Superfund program.</edomvd>

 <edomv>Drycleaning Solvent Cleanup Program</edomv>
<edomvd>The Florida Legislature has established a state-funded program to clean up properties that are contaminated as a result of the operations of a drycleaning facility or wholesale supply facility (Chapter 376, Florida Statutes). The program is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The statute was sponsored by the drycleaning industry to address environmental, economic and liability issues resulting from drycleaning solvent contamination. The program provides limited liability protection to the owner, operator and real property owner of drycleaning or wholesale supply facilities for cleanup of drycleaning solvent contamination if the parties meet the eligibility conditions stated in the law.</edomvd>

 <edomv>Hazardous Waste Cleanup Program</edomv>
<edomvd>On February 12, 1985, Florida received authorization from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to administer its own hazardous waste management and regulatory program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) of 1976. Florida received final authorization on November 17, 2000, to implement the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984 (HSWA). The most important feature of authorization is the state's agreement to issue permits that conform to the regulatory requirements of the law, to inspect and monitor activities subject to regulation, to take appropriate enforcement action against violators and to do so in a manner no less stringent than the federal program.</edomvd>

<edomvd>The Petroleum Restoration Program encompasses the technical oversight, management, and administrative activities necessary to prioritize, assess and clean up sites contaminated by discharges of petroleum and petroleum products from stationary petroleum storage systems. These sites include those determined eligible for state-funded cleanup using qualified contractors selected through competitive procurement or recommended by the property owner or responsible party and state lead contractors under direct contract with the department, as well as non-program or voluntary cleanup sites funded by responsible parties.</edomvd>

 <edomv>Site Investigation Section</edomv>
<edomvd>he Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Site Investigation Section (SIS) conducts environmental assessments throughout Florida. These assessments are vital to protecting the state’s residents and visitors, as well as our fragile environment. Assessments typically emphasize soil and groundwater impact determinations. Groundwater produced from aquifers provides almost 90 percent of Florida's population with fresh, clean drinking water. Sites requiring assessment are prioritized and referred to Site Investigation staff by the DEP district offices. Staff also provide technical support and assistance to various law enforcement agencies to assist in the investigation of environmental crimes.</edomvd>

 <edom>
 <edomv>State Funded Cleanup Program</edomv>
<edomvd>The State Funded Cleanup Program is designed to address sites where there are no viable responsible parties, the site poses an imminent hazard, and the site does not qualify for Superfund or is a low priority for EPA. Remediation efforts are triggered when a Florida Department of Environmental Protection district office requests adoption of a site for state-funded cleanup.</edomvd>

 <edomv>State-owned Lands Cleanup Program</edomv>

The state's five water management districts include the Northwest Florida Water Management District, the Suwannee River Water Management District, the St. Johns River Water Management District, the Southwest Florida Water Management District, and the South Florida Water Management District. The department exercises general supervisory authority over the districts through a cooperative working relationship and guidance memos.

The four core mission areas of the water management districts are: (1) water supply, (2) water quality, (3) flood protection and floodplain management, and (4) natural systems.

Among other responsibilities, there are primary ways that the water management districts implement these mission areas.

Water Supply. Where it determines that existing sources of water are not adequate to supply water for all existing and future reasonable-beneficial uses and to sustain the water resources and related natural systems for the planning period (20 years), a district develops a Regional Water Supply Plan setting forth projects, costs and projections over a 20-year period that are needed to meet all existing and future reasonable-beneficial uses and to sustain the water resources and related natural systems. The districts are also proud to cost-share the implementation of many of those projects.
Water Quality. The districts perform a significant amount of water quality monitoring and assessment. For waterbodies within their regions, the districts construct or help fund the construction of water quality projects to benefit our state’s waterbodies. In addition, the districts administer regulatory programs designed to achieve the protection of the state’s water quality.
Flood Protection and Floodplain Management. The districts construct, operate and maintain flood protection structures throughout their region to prevent increases in flooding events.
Natural Systems. The districts evaluate and protect natural systems through the implementation of the Minimum Flows and Levels program and through reservations of water.
Regulatory programs delegated to the districts include programs to manage the consumptive use of water, well construction, and environmental resource permitting. In their annual budgets, the districts must reflect these core mission areas. For more on district budgets, click here.</attrdef>

 <resdesc>DOWNLOADABLE DATA</resdesc>
<distliab>The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources) who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist. Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using, modifying, contributing or distributing the materials. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html</distliab>

<stepDesc>This dataset was downloaded by the GeoPlan Center on 1/2/2023 from the FDEP website (http://geodata.dep.state.fl.us/). The data was received as a geodatabase and was in the following projection:
NAD_1983_2011_Florida_GDL_Albers. The dataset was projected to NAD_1983_HARN_Florida_GDL_Albers using the NAD_1983_HARN_To_NAD_1983_2011 transformation. This dataset is updated daily.
Contact the FDEP for the most recent data. When received this layer had 19043 records. 34 records had no spatial information so they were removed making the record total 19009. This layer replaces 3
previous layers from FDEP, wcu_closed, wcu_open, and wcu_inactive.

- Added the field DESCRIPT based on SITE_NAME.
- Data set was renamed eric_waste_cleanup_jan23 from eric_waste_cleanup</stepDesc>
